Describing how a spreadsheet works is difficult to put into words, especiallyif the spreadsheet is complex and has multiple interlinked tables and look ups.Experience has shown us that although wordy descriptions work fine for simple spreadsheets,they quickly become unmanageable and confusing for larger spreadsheets. This problemis compounded by the fact that two people will describe the functionality verydifferently in words.
语言描述电子表格怎样工作是很困难的，尤其是电子表格较为复杂并有多个互相链接表格和查找。经验表明，尽管冗长的描述可以很好的处理简单的电子表格，但是很快对于较大的电子表格就会变的难以管理和混乱不清。雪上加霜的是，不同人描述相同的功能可能会有差异很大的词语。
Our approach to defining user needs and calculations is done using tables asshown below (Table. 1). Worksheets are broken down into tables and each table’s needis defined by the user. Unique references for any calculations are defined at thisstage to allow the start of the traceability through FS and qualification. Note thatonly verifiable ‘calculation’ cells are specified in this user requirements section; this wouldinclude formulae, conditional formats, data validation and graphical ranges. Data inputcells and constant text cells are not included.

The user requirements are also supported at this stage by a fully functional prototypeof the spreadsheet (printouts of which are included in Appendix C of thespecification), and therefore this table, combined with the visual image allows the reader to get aclear picture of the user’s needs and how the spreadsheet works and processes data.
用户需求在这阶段同样可以通过全功能原型的电子表格来支持（附件 C 中包括规范的打印输出），因此，这张表格结合直观的视觉效果使读者更清楚的了解用户的需求以及电子表格工作和处理数据是怎么样进行的。
This method may seem over complicated for such a simple example, but in reality spreadsheets are never this straight forward, and wordy descriptions areextremely cumbersome. From our experience this provides a consistent and efficient methodof listing user requirements.
这个方法看起来似乎对于一个简单的例子都很复杂，但是在现实中的电子表格从来没有这样直截了当，并且冗长的描述是及其麻烦的。从我们的经验来看，这提供了一个一致的、高效的用户需求清单方法。
